vmPing, short for Visual Multi Ping, is a graphical network diagnostic utility that's designed for monitoring and troubleshooting network connectivity and latency issues. It provides a user-friendly interface for simultaneously pinging multiple hosts and offers additional tools like TCP 'port ping,' a trace route utility, and a basic packet generator/stress tester...

It provides real-time feedback on the responsiveness and round-trip time (latency) of each target host. Unlike the traditional 'ping' command, vmPing is more feature-rich and user-friendly, making it a valuable tool for network troubleshooting and monitoring.

Key Features of vmPing (Visual Multi Ping):

Multiple Host Monitoring: vmPing enables users to monitor the availability and response times of multiple hosts concurrently. Hosts can be easily added or removed from the monitoring list.

Color-Coding: The tool uses color-coded indicators to represent the status of each host. Green typically indicates a responsive host, while red signifies an unresponsive or slow host. This visual representation makes it easy to identify issues at a glance.

ICMP and TCP Ping: vmPing supports both ICMP (ping) and TCP port ping. In addition to standard ping tests, it can continuously check the status of a specified TCP port, allowing you to verify whether services are running correctly.

Dynamic Resizing: Each host monitor dynamically resizes with the application window, ensuring an efficient use of screen space and accommodating various monitor configurations.

Trace Route Utility: vmPing includes a fast trace route utility, which helps you identify the network path and hops between your computer and a target host. This is useful for diagnosing routing issues.

Packet Generation/Stress Testing: It provides a basic packet generator and stress tester, allowing you to simulate network traffic and test the performance and reliability of your network.

Advantages of using vmPing (Visual Multi Ping):

Real-Time Monitoring: vmPing offers real-time feedback, making it easy to identify network issues as they occur, reducing downtime, and improving network reliability.

Visual Clarity: The color-coded interface provides a quick and intuitive way to assess the status of multiple hosts, even for users with limited technical knowledge.

Versatility: With support for both ICMP and TCP ping, as well as trace route functionality, vmPing is a versatile tool for various network diagnostic tasks.

User-Friendly: The graphical interface and straightforward setup make vmPing accessible to both experienced network administrators and those new to network troubleshooting.

Efficiency: The ability to monitor multiple hosts in a single interface enhances efficiency when managing and troubleshooting network devices.

Cost-Effective: vmPing is available as a free and open-source tool, making it a cost-effective choice for organizations with budget constraints.

In summary, vmPing is a user-friendly and versatile graphical network diagnostic tool that simplifies the monitoring and troubleshooting of multiple hosts. Its real-time feedback, visual clarity, and support for ICMP and TCP ping, among other features, make it a valuable asset for network administrators and IT professionals.

vmPing - Changelog:

Fixed: Force software rendering. This should fix high GPU usage on some video cards.
Fixed: Loading a favorite on startup was not using the column count for the favorite.
Fixed: Scroll indicator icon would unnecessarily display when the window was resized to small dimensions.
The position and size of the status history window is now remembered rather than resetting each time it's opened.
Switch to using SnapToDevicePixels on the main window. Previously, the pixel width for the black borders between probes would sometimes vary when the window was resized. The borders should now always be consistent.
Removed gaps when hovering mouse between menu buttons (Add Host, Columns, Start/Stop All). Removed gap from right edge of main menu button.
Some of the menu headers have been renamed on the options screen.
