Processors

The processor, or CPU, Central Processing Unit, "CPU" is the essential component of a computer that interprets instructions and processes data from a program.
The processing speed of a processor is still sometimes expressed in MIPS (million instructions per second) or in Megaflops (millions of floating-point operations per second) for the floating-point part, called FPU (Floating Point Unit). However, today, the processors are based on different architectures and parallelization techniques treatments that no longer allow to simply determine their performance. Specific benchmarking programs have been developed to obtain comparisons of actual program execution times.

It is the processor that gives computers their fundamental ability to be programmed, it is one of the necessary components for the operation of all types of computers, associated with primary memories and input / output devices.
